Murrayfield Pitch Reconstruction
Monday, 4 August 2008
It has recently been announcec that tie Ltd, on behalf of the City of Edinburgh Council, and in consultation with the SRU, have awarded a contract for the reconstruction of the Rugby Training Pitches at Murrayfield.
The works, which are being carried out as part of the Water of Leith Flood Prevention Measures and as accommodation works associated with the Edinburgh Tram Project, are likely to commence on site at the beginning of August and will take 18 weeks to complete. The project involves the replacement of the existing six training pitches with three grass pitches and an artificial pitch and the replacement of the existing pitch drainage, irrigation and floodlighting systems, all in accordance with Planning Consent, 08/00609/FUL, which was confirmed by the Council on 1st July 2008.
The contract for the work, which will be supervised on site by tie Limited, has been awarded to Souters Sports Limited, who have considerable experience in carrying out sports-ground work of this type. The contractor is currently developing his traffic management plan for the project but it is envisaged that materials will be both delivered and removed from site using the existing stadium accesses that lead to Corstorphine Road in the north and to Saughtonhall Avenue in the west. Access routes are being discussed with the Council and will be dependent on the progress of other road works in the Murrayfield area, for example the SGN works along Corstorphine Road and other works in the Balgreen Road, Roseburn and Russell Road areas.
