Friday, 20 June 2008
The “Golden Oldies World Rugby Festival” will be taking place in the Murrayfield area between 1st and 8th September, and it was thought useful for local residents to know about this. This is a rugby event for players aged 35 and over. Some facilities within Murrayfield Stadium will be being used and the rugby games will be taking place within Roseburn Park. There will be three rugby playing days during the week long festival: on Tuesday 2nd; Thursday 4th and Saturday 6th September. The games will be played on four pitches within Roseburn Park and six within Saughton Park. There will be six kick off times each day, with the first game starting at 10am and the last at 4:15pm.
Murrayfield Stadium will be the festival hub during these three playing days. A marquee will be erected in the North Car park area of the stadium which will contain the catering, bar and entertainment. The entertainment within the marquee will stop at 7pm each evening with the marquee closing at 8pm. The majority of the players will be transferred from their hotels to / from Murrayfield by coach. All coaches will enter & exit Murrayfield's coach car park via Saughtonhall Avenue. There will be a coach shuttle service between Murrayfield and Saughton Park to transfer the players that have games at Saughton Park. To date, there are 108 teams registered from 19 countries with approximately 2600 players.
