Extension of the Controlled Parking Zone
Wednesday, 13 February 2008
Following the introduction of the extended CPZ in November in areas on the east side of the Community Council area, a number of residents were finding increased problems with parking and letters had been received by our Ward Councillors on its possible further extension. They had therefore organised a public meeting chaired by Cllr Wheeler which had been held on the evening of Wednesday, 30 January in the Murrayfield Church Centre Hall. The idea was to try to assess whether or not there was a strong feeling in favour of the extension of the CPZ. There was a very good turn-out of residents at the meeting – almost standing room only. At the end of the meeting those attending were asked to indicate whether they were in favour of going over to a full CPZ, a CPZ but with a much shorter time span of regulation during the day (the difference between the two was not specified) or no action. The vast majority of those attending were in favour of one or other variant of the CPZ being introduced, with roughly a 50:50 split between the two variants, very few favouring no action. It is likely, however, that fewer residents living at some distance from the boundary of the present CPZ may be in favour of its extension.
