Police Report

Monday, 28 January 2008

At our January meeting, Insp. Brian Wilson reported on crime in the area over the past month.  In one case a thief had conned his way into the house of a 92 year old woman in sheltered housing and robbed her of £108 in cash.  Fortunately she had refused to sign a cheque when this was demanded of her.  The police were working in co-operation with public utilities on schemes to try to redirect callers on the elderly to neighbours in the first place.
Over the last few weeks there had been a problem in Roseburn caused by young people who had moved into the area after being moved on following incidents elsewhere. Twenty-one young people had taken part in rioting and breach of the peace at Tesco in Corstorphine, but the same group was now congregating at Murrayfield Ice Rink. He had invited the parents of the twenty-one to a meeting the previous week and had shown them a visual record of the incident. There had also been a discussion about the effect on the community and an attempt was made to have some contact with victims of the incident.  Again he hoped that any problems would be reported to the police.
