Murrayfield Sport & Leisure granted a Public Entertainment Licence for Murrayfield Stadium
Saturday, 31 March 2007
The above application by Murrayfield Sport & Leisure Ltd was heard by the CEC Regulatory Committee on 30th March. The Community Council was represented at the hearing and in its submission asked that conditions be applied in respect of adequate policing of the event; the provision of adequate toilet facilities outside the ground; adequate noise control with noise monitoring; and adequate cleaning of streets after events. The restrictions applied to the “Live8” concert at the time of the G8 summit were suggested as a model. The Committee will be applying a number of conditions and on that basis decided to approve the application.
However, Murrayfield Sport & Leisure Ltd have emphasised that they are not a “fly by night” company and are anxious to function in harmony with the surrounding community. They are planning to have about 5 concerts this year between May and August – outside these months the temperature tends to be too low for such events. They will be liaising with a number of Council departments and are proposing to take a number of actions to minimise the environmental impact. They are proposing to have stewards and barriers outside the grounds and also “portaloos”, these resources being commensurate with the numbers attending the concerts. Bins will also be positioned near exits. To minimise noise leakage, a directional sound system is being used. The quoted limits inside the stadium will be 102 dB, with 75 dB outside. It is also planned that concerts finish by 22:30h with the stadium cleared by 22:45h.
One of the most satisfactory statements was made by one of the Council officials, who said that the conditions governing the events would be following the pattern of the “Live8” concert at the time of the G8 meeting.
